We dipped them in white chocolate.
Over the weekend I made these Red Velvet Cake Balls from Bakerella for the first time. The concept of mashing up a cake and mixing it with frosting initially sounded crazy to me. I mean, isn't the frosting the best part and don't we all eat the cake first and then scoop up all the frosting by the spoonful in an attempt to save the best for last? Or is that just how I eat cake? After making these cake balls, I can now assure you that the people at Bakerella are onto something. They were soft, moist, and perfectly sweetened without making you sick to your stomach (unless you eat 15 of them in a row like I did, which I don't recommend). Bakerella has become one of my favorite websites for creative desserts (see the Oreo Kisses I made here). What are your favorite websites/cookbooks for great desserts?

These look pretty yummy!
I'm a terrible cook myself (as documented in this old blogpost: http://insniffschoos.blogspot.com/2010/02/homemade-cupcakes-total-failure.html)
But I really love desserts, and all sorts of cheesecakes are my absolute faves. :)
Those look so good!
Those really sound yummy and they look so cute:)
I adore smitten kitchen and I often use it for my cooking or baking:)

your went much better than my attempt! i am a cooking disaster xxxx
they are so pretty too!!!
i hope you got those rings!
Oh my, this looks SO DELICIOUS! I wonder if one could use red beet to make them red... These days I hardly ever do any cooking or baking anymore (blame the blogging) - I leave it all to the man (who's much better at it than I am anyway). xo
For some reason your tiny muffin caps reminds me of Smurf village (it's early, I must still be asleep, haha).
These look delish!
YUMMY! My friend just had a red velvet cake for her wedding, and although I don't eat wedding cake, I tried it and it was AWESOME!
<3
Bakerella was in Atl over the weekend to judge a cupcake contest and I wanted to go stalk her! Ha. I love that website.

Yummmmmmmy!! Those look delish, Valerie! I love red vlevet, and the little topping of icing-mmmmmmmm, my mouth is watering!
You forgot to mention they are dipped in white chocolate, and they were amazing. I agree don't eat fifteen in one setting, you might not feel so good afterwards(remember this for next time Valerie).
Oh my gosh - I'm literally drooling!!
I saw these on Bakerella and I was totally intrigued. May have to give them a try!
I love Smitten Kitchen and Tartlette.
I've been dying to make cakeballs for the longest time. My husband and I always pick them up from a bakery in Dallas when we're home. I just might have to get my hands on that Bakerella recipe and try them myself!
Yum! I love red velvet!
Wow - those look amazing! What a genius idea to hide more frosting inside the cake.
How divine they look!

Oh my gosh...... These look incredible! White chocolate is my favorite, I never would have thought to dip them in that. These look outrageous!!! Thanks for sharing :)
I've been following Bakerella for a while now, but Ive never triend any of the recipes... I always thought they might be too much for my limited baking skills lol! I'm so glad you posted this though because a) I LOVE red velvet cake b) it shows me that real people can make those adorable cake balls and c) I now know I'm not the only one who really only makes cake for the icing!
These look yummy! Definitely going to have to check it out :-)
Valerie - these look so good. Damn that gluten!! I want to try so badly :(
ps- the weather, the weather, the weather!! pass.the.cake. it's time to celebrate - maybe with, like, 15 of these or something.
Carrie:)
OMG...these look SO good!!! I really want to bake something yummy, but it's just too dang hot! It would cost me a mint to cool the house down afterwards, and I'd rather buy more shoes than give my money to SCE! :)

They look pretty yummy, but I'm with you. Frosting is totally the best part!! I like my frosting on top (or out of the container... oops!).
These look SO good! They had them at the bakery I stopped by today but I didn't get any... I'm so regretting it now!
