Red Velvet Cake Balls

We dipped them in white chocolate.

Over the weekend I made these Red Velvet Cake Balls from Bakerella for the first time. The concept of mashing up a cake and mixing it with frosting initially sounded crazy to me. I mean, isn't the frosting the best part and don't we all eat the cake first and then scoop up all the frosting by the spoonful in an attempt to save the best for last? Or is that just how I eat cake? After making these cake balls, I can now assure you that the people at Bakerella are onto something. They were soft, moist, and perfectly sweetened without making you sick to your stomach (unless you eat 15 of them in a row like I did, which I don't recommend). Bakerella has become one of my favorite websites for creative desserts (see the Oreo Kisses I made here). What are your favorite websites/cookbooks for great desserts?

These look pretty yummy!

I'm a terrible cook myself (as documented in this old blogpost: http://insniffschoos.blogspot.com/2010/02/homemade-cupcakes-total-failure.html)

But I really love desserts, and all sorts of cheesecakes are my absolute faves. :)

Oh my, this looks SO DELICIOUS! I wonder if one could use red beet to make them red... These days I hardly ever do any cooking or baking anymore (blame the blogging) - I leave it all to the man (who's much better at it than I am anyway). xo

For some reason your tiny muffin caps reminds me of Smurf village (it's early, I must still be asleep, haha).

These look delish!

You forgot to mention they are dipped in white chocolate, and they were amazing. I agree don't eat fifteen in one setting, you might not feel so good afterwards(remember this for next time Valerie).

I've been dying to make cakeballs for the longest time. My husband and I always pick them up from a bakery in Dallas when we're home. I just might have to get my hands on that Bakerella recipe and try them myself!

I've been following Bakerella for a while now, but Ive never triend any of the recipes... I always thought they might be too much for my limited baking skills lol! I'm so glad you posted this though because a) I LOVE red velvet cake b) it shows me that real people can make those adorable cake balls and c) I now know I'm not the only one who really only makes cake for the icing!

OMG...these look SO good!!! I really want to bake something yummy, but it's just too dang hot! It would cost me a mint to cool the house down afterwards, and I'd rather buy more shoes than give my money to SCE! :)
