Camera Shopping

As I mentioned here, my camera is from the stone age and it's time for an upgrade.  I put a new camera on my Christmas list, but I actually don't know anything about what's new and cool.  I want to carry it with me in my purse, so it needs to be on the smaller side.  I've heard these are good, but wanted to see if you had any recommendations for me.  What camera do you use?  What are the features that I can't live without?  (Gabe, take notes).

I am probably not the right person to ask b/c I have a huge Nikon Digital SLR camera. It is a pain to carry with me but I have my Iphone as back up. Have you checked out the new digital SLR's that are small and compact like these? I don't know much about them but might be a good option.

I use a crappy pink Fugi Finepix Z. While not from the stone ages, (it's only a year old) it still kind of sucks :(
This is why I have Patti! ;)

I have a Nikon Coolpix (you know the one that Aston Kutcher advertises for). :) I don't know if it's actually new or cool, but I'm sure they have a newer model out by now. (I also have a Nikon DSLR, which is not practical for everyday use, but a good investment.)

I've had a little Sony CyberShot for five years that I LOVE... Perfect for my carry-it-with me purposes but if you're looking for serious quality, I definitely recommend a Canon. Have a fab weekend, dear!

Canon S95 would be your perfect choice. My boyfriend has this cam and it takes Ahhhhhmazing pictures! The photo quality is really good, the photos could even pass for photos taken by a dslr. You should definitely invest in getting a Canon S95. =)

I've always had Canons and just recently had a Sony Cybershot that I loathed. Always took grainy pictures/blurry/all around BAD.

I swear by Canons! I just asked for the Canon SD1400i for xmas! My Dad has one of the Rebels (bigger cameras) and the picture quality is UNREAL but far too big for a day to day camera!

Hope you find one you love!

I have a Canon Powershot and love it! I'm hoping to score a Rebel t2i sooner rather than later!

I love my Powershot! I also have my Nikon SLR and I have to say the quality of the photos is pretty much equal. And the ease can't be beat.

Hope you have a great weekend, honey!

I have the second one you listed- Canon S95-
I have really enjoyed it. It takes awesome pics and you can put it in manual mode which gives you the ability to do alot more with the pics.

I love all Caon Point and shoot cameras and I think I have an older model of the 1st one you listed. I am very pleased so I say go for the SD 4500.

P.S. Stop by my blog if you have a chance - I am hosting an amazing EmersonMade Giveaway just in time for the holidays.

I need to get a new camera myself and these all look fantastic. My preference is a Sony or Canon. Yay for an upgrade!

I have a Kodak EasyShare M340. I always keep it with me in my purse. I would recommend it! It was a gift, but I think it was around $150. I like it! I hope you find one that works for you!

I have a Canon EOS Rebel (It's an SLR, which I recommend eventually getting- so that you can shoot manually!), but a good point and shoot camera is also a must. I was given a Nikon CoolPix Point & Shoot as a gift this past year, but I've heard wonderful things about the Canon Powershot (I prefer Canon over Nikon)!

curious what you ended up getting? The Panasonic LX4 is the direct competitor to S95 and sports an even superior image quality (due to better glass)
