Buy This, Not That

Old Navy Women's Long Button Front Trench Coat $49.99
French Connection Macks Trench Coat $298

The classic trench coat is something that had been on my wish list for years. However, in Southern California, a long coat isn't usually necessary so I didn't want to break the bank for this trend. I found the perfect tan trench over the summer at Banana Republic at a major discount, which helped justify the purchase. I later found out it was on back order and is being sent to me in a few weeks. In the meantime, I've spotted this Old Navy trench that's making me second guess the one I bought. Either way, I'll be excited to wear this with my Hunter boots on many upcoming rainy days.

Major deal...I can't wait to see you wear yours with your Hunters, too!!

I've got the boots down, but somehow with the zebra trench, well, I think you get the point. And my wallet's on lockdown so no classic trench here. At least one of us will look classy in the rain! :)

Have a great weekend!

Carrie

I love trench coat. The only trench that I own is a gift from a friend and I couldn't even wear it here in Asia. :)

The only thing is this Old Navy one looks a little wrinkely, maybe not as water resistant? I always go second cheapest hehe

The idea that their is always an alternative to a splurge... one that the mom on a budget {me} can get, and still look fashionable! Love it

i'm not an ON girl - i don't find their clothes to be that well made and just not into their styles and cuts - i'm still dying for my Burberry trench ..

I literally have 3 trenches but such is life in Chicago. I get so much wear out of them. But I wouldn't take the splurge in CA when you will rarely wear it...spend that money elsewhere!

Ooh, a trench with Hunter's is one of my favorite combinations! Loving the look for less here - so cute!! :)

WOW!!!!!!!!!

I agree totally (being in so. CA myself!) and don't have a trench coat for the same reason. This is on my to-buy list, for sure. Thank you for this find! I'm thinking who else in my family needs one, as it's too great to keep the 'secret' to myself:).

I had an interesting experience with a coat. A few years back, I needed a nice one for a trip to New York, but couldn't find one. I went to American Eagle and found the perfect one that had been returned by a customer who'd purchased it back east! Meant to be:)...

Happy Friday!

I DID buy the old Navy one!!! It is a great substitute until I can upgrade to a nicer one.
The cons:
Isn't crisp, wrinkles easily
It sort of ill fitting, if it had one more set of buttons it would have a more flattering line down the body
The belt comes untied often
The pros:
Inexpensive!
Has a fun yellow colored liner
Great color
Sturdy buttons

I am using it until I save enough for a better one, like that FC one =)

Wow I think I like the Old navy one better. It has a much more relaxed feel to it. Great find. I am Not a fashion snob. If I can get a look I love I'll buy it from the flea market if I have to. My wallet and husband are both very happy for that. :)
Happy weekend.
PS I have been using the shampoo you told me about and I think it is making a difference. I have had comments on my hair looking so shiny. Thanks

Love that from Old Navy! I love the classic khaki trench. And the yellow lining is so great! I bought a mint green one last year from Target and love it.

Great find!

Ohh great deal! Love the jackets! Can't wait to break them out for "fall"...if that's what you want to call it here in LA.

I'm also out of town this weekend lol - go figure! But I am going to the river so it's going to be in the 100s there. Hope you're going some place fun :D

I love a trench with hunter boots! Unfortunately the raining season in Florida is also the HOT season, so a trench and boots aren't so practical. However, I may have to invest in a trench for those rare, cool rainy days.

Have a great weekend!

That Old Navy one is pretty sensational. And I think French Connection's quality isn't so great that it justifies the PRICE that they're charging.

I've had a nude trench for a few years now but I hardly wear it :( My chain store buy just doesn't compare to the Burberry one I tried on soon after I got it!
