Sand Castles

Last weekend marked the 30th Annual US Open Sandcastle Competition at Imperial Beach in San Diego. While I've always been impressed with those who can mold sand into a pretty design, these are far more than just that. These are brilliant works of art. Thinking of the competition lead me to an online search for some of the greatest sand sculptures ever made and these were a few of my favorites. It's fascinating that people put so much time and effort into them just to see them washed away a few short hours later. Maybe that's exactly why they're so intriguing.

These are amazing! I can't believe how creative people are. I feel the same way about intricate sidewalk chalk drawings. The first one is my favorite and looks like it is made out of stone.

Val these are so awesome. When I first clicked on I was thinking "Good God is this what they did this weekend?!?! I accomplish nothing!!" hahahaha

Seriously though the hours that go into this must be something else and they are just impeccably done. If I tried this it would basically be a blob. With food coloring. ha!

And ps - on the shoes??? Sucktastic!! That's not right!!! Let's start a small shoe riot...

This is amazing! We used to have a park by our house that had a competition like this, and my mom and I would always go. It's unbelievable that people can actually do this - the structures are so life-like, aren't they?!
