After what seemed like a very long week, I'm so thankful that today is Friday. This weekend I'm planning on having dinner with girlfriends, practicing yoga, reading Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella, getting a facial for spa week, and organizing my closet. What do you have planned for the weekend?

I also want to wish my dad and grandma a very happy birthday! I love you both and can't wait to celebrate with you next weekend.

As the September issues arrive in my mailbox and summer comes to a close, I find myself drawn towards hats in materials such as tweed and wool. I can picture myself wearing these with skinny jeans, over sized chunky sweaters, and cozy boots throughout the upcoming months. And what a great way to beat bad hair days!

On a separate note, today is Gabe's birthday! Happy birthday to my incredible husband, skilled photographer, unbiased taste tester, biggest fan, and very best friend!

Cupcakes from Vanilla Bake Shop

I celebrated a birthday last week (Thursday, to be exact) and opted for smaller, more intimate celebrations over one big event. While my birthdays of the past signified big parties, lots of people, and trendy venues, they've evolved into quiet nights, dinners with friends and, of course, cupcakes! We went to dinner with friends on Saturday and due to the rain, gloominess, and unreasonably cold temperatures, this was the first year I've ever worn winter boots and a long sleeved top for my July birthday. Regardless of the weather, we had a fantastic time. Thank you to Gabe and my friends and family for making my day (and the entire week) very special!

We celebrated Erik's 30th birthday on Saturday night with cupcakes, pizza, wine, and the Mayweather/Mosley fight. Kati threw him an awesome party and everyone had a great time. Happy Birthday, Erik!

Over the weekend, my friend Alex turned 30 and celebrated with a pool party on her rooftop pool in Santa Monica. The weather wasn't quite warm enough for swimming, but it was nice enough to wear a sundress over my bikini and enjoy the sunshine, barbecued ribs, and champagne. After the party, Gabe and I grabbed dinner with Bunz and Sarah on the Promenade and I took advantage of (hopefully) the last time I'll be able to wear boots to dinner this season before the weather really starts to turn warm.

On a side note, all fashion designers (professionally trained or self-taught) who are interested in being on Season 2 of Bravo's "The Fashion Show"Hosted by Isaac Mizrahi, there's an open casting call in a city near you (Seattle, Los Angeles, Austin, NYC, and Chicago). My friend Kati is doing the casting and is looking for people with a vision and design skills. Check it out if you're interested!

Kati, Sarah, and I celebrated Sarah's birthday on Friday night at The Parlor in Santa Monica. As I've said before, staying in at night and going to bed early is usually my thing, but it was so fun to mix things up and "hit the town" for a girls' night. We had a lot of fun and laughs even had a few celebrity sightings. The guy pictured above (Colin Egglesfield) was on Melrose Place. Unfortunately, I don't watch Melrose, so this wasn't as exciting as he had hoped it would be for us. However, he told us that he just got cast in a movie based on the book called Something Borrowed. I was beside myself with excitement about this fact because I literally finished reading this book yesterday and LOVED it! I'm so happy to hear they're making it into a movie!

Our weekend in Fresno was filled with family, friends, and birthday celebrations. We celebrated my little brother Johnnie's 24th birthday on Saturday and I was able to see my niece Kylee (along with the rest of my family) which is always so exciting for me. We also had lunch with our friends Sarah and Chase and made it to Lucia's sister Lisa's 40th Birthday party after dinner at my parents' house. One of the highlights of the night was watching the DJ who sang and danced alone outside during the entire party. We finally noticed him and gave him the credit he deserved for being the true life of the party. It reminded Johnnie and me of this clip from Happy Gilmore.
